Financial Crisis 2009 The United States has seen this situation before and survived; but not without change. Any solution to the current financial crisis will need to include the three players; individuals, banks, and the government. All three will also need to be held accountable. Many individuals have stepped beyond their personal means, financial institutions have acted with blatant neglect, and so far the government has in essence stood by and supervised the entire show. Capitalism is the American ideal, but unchecked and immoral capitalism leads to collapse through greed. No solution will be easy and America will suffer regardless of what is done, though some action must be taken. Too much individual funding will lead to false inflation and the central financial institutions have repeatedly proven they will only use any unregulated funding for personal gain, not in the interest of their country. Citigroup repealed many of the regulations set in place to protect the economy on a whole; then proceeded to conduct business without regard for economic stability. Regardless of the status of current assets; the major central institutions are now and have been insolvent. No business or institution in any economy would be allowed to survive as the banks have; not without heavy government protection. Financial institutions of a smaller scale would either be taken by the Fed, or dissolved by the market. Since the central financial institutions are in fact de-facto national banks, this has not occurred. However, I propose these institutions are not too-big-to-fail, on the contrary, they have failed to too great an extent to survive intact. The roles that international community can play in terminating violent conflicts in today’s world are communication and intervention. Communication Communication might be too broad to be one of the key features to solve conflicts in today’s world. It is not only about conversation, but also about recognition and negotiation. Communication and negotiation can be as if to say ‘weapon’ to terminate violent conflicts. Looking back to history, there were some cases that succeeded by the use of this ‘weapon’ to prevent, manage, terminate, or at least normalize the situation. Nevertheless in most cases, communication and negotiation are not easily done between the actual units related to the conflict. This ‘weapon’ is one of the skills that can be used to de-escalate the issue. One brief example about resolution can be Cold War. This war was held right after World War II ended. It was from 1945 to 1991 and the belligerents were mainly United States and Soviet Union. It was named Cold War because two powerful countries possessed nuclear weapons and threatened each other without any military or physical combat. It began because of disagreement between two governmental policies each country distinctly pursued which were capitalism and communism. After many conflicts between capitalism and communism, United States and USSR agreed on a strategy called mutually assured destruction which simply is an agreement saying it will be unnecessary to make massive destruction by two opposing sides. This might have led to another world war or nuclear war because it was a war between two allies. However, two superpowers noticed that rather than fighting for which governmental policy is right, they should prevent the diffusion of researching and developing nuclear weapons in other countries. One good example can be Bosnian civil wars. This war was held from 1992 to 1995, which was after the breakup of Yugoslavia. It was a conflict among Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian. After the First World War ended, Serbia, Bosnia, Slovenia, and Croatia were united under the control of Josip Tito. It was difficult at the first time but Tito was able to harmonize them and it worked. However, after the death of Tito, Bosnia raised their voice for independence. Serbians were unhappy with Bosnian’s action and eventually led into a war. War ended up becoming violent but United States threatened Bosnian Serbs without military actions. Backin the 1930s the higher a teachers salary was the higher theirquality and training was (Mckeon 98). This meant that whenchildren did go to school they did not get adequate teaching. The children were not getting theeducation they needed, so they were forced to work thesubstandard jobs such as sharecropping. Mckeon writes that many tenant farmers in the South said thatgarden vegetables, milk, butter, and eggs were never a part oftheir diet (116). One of the main things that they did eat wassowbelly, a fat salty pork (Walker 33). Because they ate sopoorly it was hard for them to stay healthy. Another healthconcern of the tenant farmers was that their clothing was verycoarse and not warm enough (Gentry 38). Many of the men woredenim overalls and the women wore cheap cotton and homemadeunderwear, if any at all (Gentry 38). Wearing clothing like thiscould be very hard on a person during the winter months, andcould easily lead to diseases such as the flu or pneumonia. These diseases were hard for the poor sharecroppers to combatbecause it was hard for them to afford any medication, if therewere any medications at all to help them out. Another diseasethat plagued the southern sharecroppers was typhoid fever (Gentry31). This disease was spread through contaminated wells and tooka heavy toll on the life and energy of a person (Gentry 31). Malaria, which led to several fatalities, was also a seriousproblem for the tenant farmers (Corder 98). It was a majorproblem for many of the unfitting men, and the men who workedlong energetic hours (Corder 98). With all of these healthhazards it was hard for the southern share croppers to stayhealthy. To make the problem even worse there were not eno ughhealth care facilities to take care of the sick. Walker writesthat in the 1930s there was an average of 210 persons perhospital bed in the south, while the national average was only120 (10).
